The Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools serves 1600 students from PreK-12 and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school. Over 92% of our students are Latinx. Our school system consists of Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Our system grew out of Guadalupe Centers’ educational programming. Guadalupe Centers is the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the US since 1919. Our roots in our community run deep.

Summary:

A long-term sub is a temporary teaching assignment within GES. Individuals serving in this capacity must be hardworking and enthusiastic about fostering children in their academic and social growth. They should strive to continue the efforts of the school’s employee expectations and instructional delivery for the betterment of all students served in our school setting.

 

Reports To:  Building Principal

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Create a safe and positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a positive climate where students are actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Implement ESL strategies and scaffolding for student understanding (Listening and reading), student interaction, and student production (Speaking and writing) across all WIDA levels to increase the achievement of English Language Learners (ELLs) across all content area standards.
  • Identify instructional resources and strategies to address the needs of individual students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the implementation of an established curriculum.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Serve as a positive role model for the purpose of demonstrating professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or standards for the purpose of determining gains in student performance and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits and other related duties for the purpose of ensuring an effective work environment as monitored and assigned by the building-level principal. Ensure implementation of all modifications and accommodations for students with Special Needs (IEP/504). Demonstrate to meet the specific instructional needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  • Manage student behavior with the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations. 
  • Committed to working with under-served students. 

 

Education and Experience:

  • The achievement of the minimum number of college hours to achieve a substitute teacher certificate as dictated by Missouri state law and meet the requirements approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Substitute Teacher Certification by the state of Missouri or provisionally approved by the Superintendent of school or designated appointee.
  • Experience in an urban school setting is preferred.
  • Bilingual ability; English required and Spanish preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the school and classroom. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
