The Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools serves 1,600 students ranging from PreK–12, and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school. Over 97% of our students are Latinx. Our school system consists of Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Summary

The ELD Paraprofessional supports English Learner (EL) students by reinforcing academic instruction and English language development under the direction of certified teachers. This position provides instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support to ensure EL students can meaningfully access the curriculum and achieve academic success.

The ELD Paraprofessional works collaboratively with classroom teachers, ELD specialists, and building staff to support language acquisition, academic growth, and positive school experiences, in compliance with DESE requirements and district policies.

 

Reports To: Building Principal

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group instructional support to English Learners, reinforcing lessons introduced by certified teachers.
• Support students in developing English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
• Assist teachers with differentiated instruction and adaptation of instructional materials to meet the needs of English Learners.
• Collaborate with ELD teachers and classroom staff to monitor student progress and maintain accurate instructional data and documentation.
• Provide supervision for students during classroom activities, hallways, arrival/dismissal, lunch, and recess as assigned.
• Assist with student assessments, including English language proficiency testing, under the direction of certified staff.
• Support the use of instructional technology and digital learning platforms that promote English language development.
• Model appropriate student behavior and support students’ social-emotional development through positive reinforcement.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in compliance with FERPA and district policy.
• Participate in required professional learning related to English Learners, cultural competency, and instructional best practices.
• Follow all school, district, state, and federal policies related to student safety and instructional support.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the instructional program.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish (required).
• Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students, families, and staff.
• Knowledge of second language acquisition and strategies to support English Learners.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to model, reinforce, and support positive student behavior.
• Proficiency with educational technology, including Chromebooks, Google Workspace, and online learning platforms.
• Commitment to serving culturally and linguistically diverse learners in an urban school setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow instructional direction from certified staff.

Education and Experience

• Minimum: 60 college credit hours or successful completion of the Missouri ParaPro Assessment (per DESE requirements).

• Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Linguistics, or related field.

• Experience working with English Learners and/or in an urban school environment preferred.

• Missouri substitute or paraprofessional certification strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and assisting students in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.

• Ability to lift up to 45 pounds.

• Must be able to assist students with mobility or physical needs.

• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods for documentation and communication.

• Must be able to navigate all areas of the school campus.
